Lori Slaunwhite has been working in the fields of substance use, mental health and trauma for over 25 years. Lori left a busy private practice in Toronto to return “home” to Nova Scotia where she has continued her work in addiction and mental health.

Trained is social work and psychotherapy, Lori completed her graduate studies in Contemplative Psychotherapy through the Nalanda Institute in New York City. She uses a trauma informed, contemplative approach to her work - drawing on attachment focused, family systems oriented approaches most commonly. Incorporating mindfulness in many of her sessions, clients share that they feel more grounded, more capable based on the work they are doing in therapy.

She uses ear acupuncture regularly in her work and is a Registered Trainer in an internationally known treatment known as NADA protocol.

As Atlantic Canada’s first Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), she is excited to bring Dr. Patrick Carne’s model of treating sexual compulsive behaviours, particularly as they relate to men and women in substance abuse recovery, to our community.

In addition to being an Intervention Professional, Lori is also regulated as a Registered Counselling Therapist and Registered Psychotherapist. She is committed to ongoing professional development and continuing education and is available to clinicians who are interested in supervision.
